His very descriptive drawings of saints all have happy faces, a testimony to his spirituality, a legacy from his maternal grandmother. His trademark, however, are his damiselas. They are the face of the most important person in his life. A remembrance of the first love of a man as he captures the essence of her smile from years gone by in each one of them. At times they were sad, the hurt of years of separation, but his latest Ofelias are happy. His mother now lives with him. This has given birth to new creations, an explosion of fantasy and color in his work, both art and poetry. Norma Amaro
